Name: You can give a bar a descriptive name. If you do not name a bar it will derive a default name from its first time signature.
Tempo: You can have a bar setting a specific tempo by turning Set Tempo on, and specifying the tempo. The tempo becomes active at the specified beat of the bar.
Variance: You can start an accellerando or ritardando by turning Set Variance on, and adjusting the amount of variance. Negative values will result in a ritardando (tempo slowing down), and positive values will result in an accellerando (tempo speeding up). The adjustment is made after each Beat or Bar, depending on the setting specified with the Apply per button. If you set the tempo to apply until next Mark, the metronome will find the first bar following the current bar that sets a tempo, and will speed up, or slow down the tempo progressively until the bar and beat of the new tempo are reached. This feature makes it easy to program tempo changes according to how they are notated in musical scores. The variance can be set to start at any beat of a bar.
Number of times to play this bar: A bar always plays at least once. You can set it to play up to 110 times. This obviates the need to enter each and every bar in a piece. Simply repeat a bar as often as needed until the next tempo/metre adjustment, at which point you add a new bar to makes the necessary adjustments.
Be aware that, if you set a tempo on a bar, as well as a variance, and you set the bar to be played multiple times, then each time the bar is repeated, the tempo will be reset, which is not usually what you want. If you want to set a tempo, and simultaneously start a variance over several bars, create the bar with the tempo and variance, as just described, but do not set it to be played more than once. Then, after the current bar, create a new bar, without setting a tempo, nor a variance, and set it to be played an appropriate amount of times.
Time signatures: This section of the editor lists all time signatures in the bar. If you want to add/move or delete time signatures, set the editor in editing mode by clicking the Edit button at the top right corner of the screen. Having multiple time signatures allows you to create mixed metre bars.
