You can set the time signature by selecting the number of beats with the left-hand rod of the picker view, and set the beat value with the right-hand rod of the picker view. The choices are reflected at the top row under Time.
To differentiate playback of stressed and unstressed beats you can group each time signature into beat groups. Each first beat of a beat group will be played back with a dedicated sound, as will the first beat in a bar. A time signature can be subdivided into a maximum of six beat groups. The picker view adjust automatically, showing only a valid amount of rods, depending on the number of beats in the time signature and current beat group settings if any.
To subdivide a 12/8 time signature into four groups of three beats you can either enter a single beat group of 3. In this case, since 12 is evenly divisible by 3, four groups of 3 beats will be used, or you can enter four groups of 3 beats, by progressively setting the picker view rods to 3 as they become available. The picker view ensures only valid options are displayed. Of course, if you want unusual groupings that is also possible. You could for instance divide the 12/8 time signature into 3 groups of resp. 5, 3 and 4 beats.
To switch between editing the time signature and editing the beat groups click the correspoding row in the top half of the editor.
The Groupings feature enables the creation of complex time signatures.
