Why does PDFClerk reduce the file size of my documents? I am doing a very high-end print job and would like to preserve as much resolution as possible.

For example, the original PDF that I import is 754 MB. After imposition, when I export from PDFClerk to a PDF it is 381 MB.

I have set the following preferences:

Preferences/settings for all/graphics quality: best, image compression: none

Are there any other settings I can use to avoid a reduction in file size? Or, why is this happening?

Thanks!

I think that PDF Nomad has great potential and there’s lots about it I like. Please regard the following as constructive feedback.

Bugs:

- Tile Pages: I’ve tried to use it twice and on both occasions PDF Nomad hangs so that eventually I have to resort to force quitting it.

- Merge Pages: when I try to merge two pages, vertically or horizontally, all I get is a large blank page with no visible content.

- Export text fails to export most of the text in a .pdf’d PowerPoint presentation. Perhaps this is a demo limitation?

Questions and suggestions:

- When I click a tool, it seems to remain active until you select another one. I’d prefer a convention by which a single click on a tool selects it for one ‘action’, a double click selects it for multiple actions until deselected.

- When I create a comment, the dialogue box opens with the user field highlighted. In practice, I’ll almost never need to change this. It would make much more sense for the comment field to be highlighted so I can immediately start typing in my comment.

- Why is the first comment I create numbered ‘0’ rather than ‘1’?

- I find it difficult to work out how to move and resize objects (text boxes, etc) around the page. It would be really useful to have a pointer button to simplify this.

- When I want to create a hyperlink, I’d expect the destination dialogue box to appear automatically after I use the link tool to highlight the area I want to link.

- When I create, say, a radio button, the associated dialogue box doesn’t open automatically. If I double click it, PDF Nomad creates a second radio button on top of the one I’ve just created and want to edit.

- It would be really helpful to have a colour picker so that when trying to correct a typo against a colour background, you could quickly find the colour fill you need for the text box.

Hi,

My pdf is 210mm wide, so it must be an A5 pdf.

Then I go ahead with PDF Nomad, through the Media Box, and resize the page to A4 (with scaling). Then saving.

The result: no visible effect, the doc is still A5.

What did I miss here, please?

(Ideally I’d like to produce a “big styled page” (with larger fonts) at a width of 960 pt for our website.)

>Question:

>With PDF Nomad I intended to prepare some pdf:s for easier reading on the iPad.

>Usually pdf - texts turn out to be with quite small font sizes, and zooming does not help much,

>as then only the zoomed part of the text is visible on the iPad display.

>That’s why I’d like to :

>- increase the fontsize and

>- narrow down the original pdf.

Answer:

Narrowing down the PDF should be easy in PDF Nomad, simply dragging the pages to the desired with the view in Crop and Shift mode.

PDF Nomad cannot however increase the font size, as it cannot change pre-existing content, other than PDF annotations (dynamic annotations).

> I converted a pdf to A5 (with scaling), however the iOS presents the pdf “as usual”,

Answer:

The pages probably get scaled automatically to fill the screen. However, if you convert to another page size, with scaling then the text size relative to the page size stays the same. Scaling from A4 or Letter to A5 without scaling will not work since the page becomes too small to hold the text. Reducing the margins, as you suggest above is a better bet. The alternative is to extract the text, and use a text processor to create a PDF with the text in a much larger font size. PDF Nomad can extract the text for you (for the majority of PDF documents anyway). It can’t however extract graphics and layout, so whether this will suit your needs depends on the complexity of the original.

Hi,

When I narrow down there are 3 things which I’d like to comment on:

1st: How to crop all pages in a pdf-doc at the same time, I marked all 35 pages, still only 1 was cropped.

2nd: When viewing the pdf in Nomad, it says the width is 595 pt,
whereas when I measure with my xScope stick the width is 633 pt (without the brown frame), or 666 pt (with this brown frame.)

3rd: What is the brown frame for?

Hello,

I am trying to program a sequence but can’t get everything to work properly. My goal is to start at 50 BPM and go through this pattern (using 4/4 for the time signature throughout):

Bar 1: One whole note
Bar 2: Two half notes
Bar 3: Four quarter notes
Bar 4: Eight eighth notes
Bar 5: Twelve eighth notes (the triplet bar)
Bar 6: Sixteen sixteenth notes
Bar 7: Twenty sixteenth notes (the quintuplet bar)
Bar 8: Twenty-four sixteenth notes (the sextuplet bar)
Bar 9: Twenty-eight sixteenth notes (the septuplet bar)
Bar 10: Thirty-two thirty-second notes

I would then like it to repeat at the end of this sequence and increase by 10 BPM. The problem is the triplet, quintuplet, sextuplet, and septuplet bars do not divide properly. They play at the same eighth or sixteenth-note pace but with extra notes added to the end. Also, the variance does not seem to be working; the same 50 BPM pace continues for every sequence.

I attached some photos of how I set everything up and I will post more if necessary. Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks!

I have a job that that has a bunch of sequentially numbered postcards (100x150mm). In a typical run there are around 2000 cards done. I set for a digital press that uses SRA3 size card (450x320) so would like to set them up to print 8 per sheet as 4 rows, 2 columns with the sheet in portrait orientation. Because they’re sequentially numbered on the front i’d like to set it up such that when the run is trimmed on the guillotine, all I need to do is stack each pile in order on top of one another to get the entire set in sequence.

So, for my example the (say) top left slot sheet 1 will have page 1, sheet 2 page 2, sheet 3, page 3 etc all the way down to sheet (2000 / 8 =) 250. In the next slot of sheet 1 (say, the top right ) the numbering then starts at 251 down through the sheets to 500, and so on through all the page slots to eventually accommodate all 2000 cards, 8 to view on 250 sheets. When they’re trimmed I only need to stack each trimmed stack on top of one another to keep them all in sequence.

Reading a few of the questions on this board makes me think it’s also the same problem as several users have described in printing perfect bound books with multiple pages per sheet.

I can’t see any obvious way of doing this. Can it be done?
