Hi Dave,

If you attempt to install PDFClerk as a PDF Service for all users on the system, and you are logged in as a user without administrator rights, then the installation will fail. So you need to either log in as an administrator to install for all users, or install the service for the current user only.

Antonio,

My attempt was for a single user. I should have mentioned that.

Hmmm, then for once your guess is as good as mine. I did a quick double check on my system of all combinations of single/multi user installation both logged in as an administrator and logged in as a non-administrative user. I used version 2.6, but this feature hasn’t changed since it was added to PDFClerk, so the version should not matter.

I’m not sure what particularities your system may have that prevent the installation. What system version are you running? Is FileVault turned on, or any other form of encryption or security? Any other particularities that might have an influence on access rights? And, just in case, what model is your Mac?

In any event you can install manually by putting an alias to PDFClerk in one of the following places:
For single user: /Users/<yourusername>/Library/PDF Services/ (i.e. inside the Library folder in your home folder)
For all users: /Library/PDF\ Services/PDFClerk (i.e. inside the Library folder at the top level of your system disk)

I hope this helps.

António,

When I went to manually install a PDFClerk services alias in the PDF Services folder as you suggested I found it was already there, along with several other PDF Services, none of which are showing up in my Services menu. So I got to wondering if it was something in my normally-used account. I tried switching to a “clean” account (no third party junk in there) and tried installing it there. Still no luck. So I’ve got some sort of system problem that preventing any PDF Service from working that’s unrelated to PDFClerk.

More detective work ahead…

Thanks for helping me get started on it.

Mystery solved! I was expecting to see PDFClerk in the Services menu of each application and complaining when it wasn’t. I just now found it in the PDF dropdown submenu of the Print Menu.
