Hi all you forum users,

I’m an older amateur computer user who is just one small step above computer illiterate. I’ve been using this excellent application for several months now and with help from Tónio, been having a lot of luck in printing and binding a number of small books and pamphlets for family and for information for residents of the retirement apartments building where I live. I do have one task I’d like to find out how to do.

In my language, I’d like to increase the printed portion of my pages and have less white margin showing. I’ve read and read PDFClerk help, but I just haven’t been able to do this. Can you help?

I’m printing on 8.5X11 inch paper, folded once with four pages to a sheet. I use an imposition of 2-up with gutter, and with prior help from Tónio I know how to control the gutter.

Thanks. Ira at 2carrs

Hi Ira,

As it so happens I received a similar question today by email grin. The trick here is to use a display box with the margins that you desire and then show the pages by that box:
-Make sure the layout is in non-imposed mode and that you are showing the media box (View->Page Display->Use Box->Media Box). This will allow you to make the necessary changes.
-Select all pages. (If you want to use a specific page as a template select that first and then issue the select all command. The previously selected page will remain the active page.)
-Open the Inspector (Tools->Show Inspector) and select the right most button at the top to show the Display Box Inspector.
-Make sure Crop Box is selected in the popup menu.
-Enter the desired margins in the four input fields. The box will be shown for preview on the page.
-Once you are satisfied with the results click “Apply settings to all selected pages”. If the box is not centered horizontally you may wish to check the “Mirror margins on opposite pages” check box before applying to all selected pages.
-Now switch to using the crop box for display (View->Page Display->Use Box->Crop Box) and notice the changes in the preview pane. This should be the result you are after.

Instead of using the inspector you can also graphically set display boxes by activating the Caps Lock key and dragging the mouse over the page to define the visible area, then control clicking the page. More info about this process can be found in the help file.

Hi again all you readers,
grin This will let you know that with help above and beyond the call of duty, Tonió with the answer above (plus even more encouragement by e-mail) has come through again. This allows me to completely control the photographs and pictures compiled onto pages that I wish to print exactly as I wish. Again - this appliance is awesome!!!
