It looks like I still haven’t grasped the workings of impositions.

What I want: Impose 2 A4 pages onto a single-sided(!) A4 sheet, scaling the original page sizes down.

What I did: I imported the two pages of A4 size, then selected the factory-provided “Impose 2 pages per sheet side” template, which gives me one page on each side of the sheet - which I do not want since I am not printing duplex.

What I then did: I decided I had to create a custom template for my requirement, in which I changed the page distribution to:

Front: 1 | 2
Back: 0 | 0

i.e. I want pages 1 and 2 next to each other, starting in the left slot, and on the back side of the sheet I do not want anything printed. I also turned on the Global Signature option, as without it, I didn’t understand the result at all.

This does almost what I want except for the fact that I always get an empty page in the exported PDF as the back side for each sheet. How do i export a PDF that only contains the front side of each sheet?

The problem with this template started when I had 3 pages, which I assumed would (automatically) yield 2 two-sided sheets as follows:

sheet 1-front: p1 | p2
sheet 1-back: empty | empty

sheet 2-front: p3 | empty
sheet 2-back: empty | empty

However, I am only getting 1 two-sided sheet, and p3 is not imposed onto any sheet at all. Why is that? The Sheets per Signature value is set to 1. When I set that to 2, then indeed p3 shows on a second sheet - I just again don’t understand why.

I really tried to read and understand what is written in the manual, but it looks like that is above my level of comprehension… hmmm

Thanks for any help,
Christian

Hi Christian,

Adjust the template thus:

Front: 1 | 2
Back: 3 | 4

and turn off the global signature.

This should create the sequence of sheets you are after. This type of layout is not appropriate for multipage signatures, hence you want that option of. You should get pages laid out sequentially on each sheet side: 1|2 3|4 5|6 etc. or, in your 3-page document simply 1|2 3|-.

Although conceptually PDFClerk regards each even sheet as the backside of the preceding odd sheet, there is nothing preventing its use for single sided sheet printing. Entering a 0 as the page index for a slot will cause PDFClerk to leave the slot empty, but it won’t prevent the creation of empty sheet sides (after all, sometimes this might be a desirable effect). But the user controls whether the a layout is printed simplex or duplex, quite independent of how the template is defined.

I hope this clears it up.

Thank you, I haven’t thought of doing it the 1 | 2, 3 | 4-way. This does solve my problem.

Regards, Christian.
